We started our journey in a cheese factory located on a mountain, about 20 minutes away from our village, San Sebastián de La Gomera, known among the inhabitants of La Gomera as "La Villa". I spent my childhood with my grandad, may him god rest in peace, and he taugh me everything about the goats. He taugh me how to milk a goat, what do they eat, how to split them on the land, how to identify syntomns of sickness, basically everything I did need to know to start with these business. He also instructed me in which food was better for the animal, how we have enough herbs in the island to feed all the animals, just in case we would want to do it, which breed of goats will suit better for each island and the ones which would survive anything. At the beggining we had Tenerife-Norte breed and La Palma breed, apart from so many generations of mixed breed goats, but right now we have a pretty good amount of cabra palmera. When it comes to talk about what our goats are feed with, we need to take into consideration what it is the base of the food for them: straw, lucerne, soya, corn and some mineral stones that the goats lick and get some extra nutrients from. Some of them we take it from the lands of the North and others we are force to buy them on the market. We can't forget the big amount of water that they consume daily plus the importance of the quality and freshnesh of the food, that can highly impact on the performance of the goat's milk.
